Overview
The Mathematics and Philosophy Department at Western Illinois University has received approval for their new Master’s program in Teaching Mathematics from the Illinois Board of Higher Education
This innovative program will give teachers an opportunity to earn a Masters degree in Mathematics and provide opportunities for these teachers to teach dual credit and college-level courses.
The Department of Mathematics and Philosophy is excited to provide this accessible Master’s program and believes it will be a valuable benefit to the region’s secondary teachers and their students.
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this program, the student will be able to:
- display sound knowledge in applied mathematics and statistics
- demonstrate in-depth understanding of at least one area of mathematics and good knowledge in its applications
- investigate and solve problems using systematic thinking, analytic reasoning, and the scientific method
- communicate the results of his or her investigations clearly and concisely
- demonstrate appropriate knowledge in technological skills

- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 OR 3.0 or higher GPA for the last two years (60 s.h.) of undergraduate work
- 3 letters of recommendation attesting to the applicant’s academic potential at the graduate level
- International students must have an overall TOEFL score of at least 72 or an overall IELTS score of 6.0.
