Available only to foreign-educated students who have completed a first degree in law from an academically qualified non-U.S. law school. LLM American Legal System and LLM Research, Writing, and Analysis courses are required, as well as Professional Responsibility.

Seated program

The American Legal Studies concentration at Widener University is designed for attorneys from the U.S. and abroad who seek to expand their knowledge in a specialized area of current practice—or who want to develop a new area of legal expertise. The program welcomes graduates of American JD programs as well as international students who have completed a degree in law from a qualifying non-U.S. law school.

Letters of Recommendation - Candidates shall submit two letters of recommendation from law professors, employers, or other persons familiar with the applicant’s academic and professional qualifications.
Personal Statement - Candidates shall submit an essay explaining why they are seeking the LLM degree from Delaware Law and how this degree will advance their professional objectives. This essay may include reference to a specific position that the applicant seeks to attain or to an area of law where the applicant plans to make a notable contribution. Please limit this essay to one single-spaced page.
