Overview

The program of Physical Education degree at Jackson State University provides students with specialization or diversification in the areas of health, physical education, dance, physiology of exercise, athletic administration, adapted physical education, and administration of physical education in secondary schools, community colleges, and other agencies such as boys and girls clubs, Y.M.C.A.’s and Y.W.C.A. ‘s.

Applicants must be admitted to the Division of Graduate Studies and the Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER). The HPER Department has the following admission requirements in addition to the Division of Graduate Studies requirements.

A minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 3.00 for regular admission and 2.50 for conditional admission, at the undergraduate level.
An applicant must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
A completed program application.
Interview and writing sample.
Three letters of recommendation sent directly to the department.
A portfolio documenting compensating strengths such as teaching, professional presentations, community service, professional memberships and/or coaching.
