Overview
The Athletic Training programme at High Point University offers a comprehensive clinical education designed to prepare the next generation of certified healthcare professionals. This Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) is a year-round, 24-month curriculum that integrates rigorous academic coursework with hands-on patient care.
Housed within the Congdon School of Health Sciences, the course follows a post-baccalaureate model for students who have already completed an undergraduate degree. It focuses on developing expertise in emergency care, orthopedic diagnosis, and therapeutic interventions through a collaborative, inter-professional approach.
Students benefit from a unique learning environment where they study alongside peers in Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, and Physician Assistant Studies.
Why Athletic Training at High Point University?
High Point University provides an extraordinary educational environment, evidenced by a 100% pass rate on the National Board of Certification (BOC) examination for the Class of 2021. The programme is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).
Facilities include the state-of-the-art Human Biomechanics and Physiology Research Laboratory, where students engage in faculty-mentored research. This interdisciplinary facility focuses on injury risk and prevention, allowing students to use advanced motion analysis equipment to improve athlete performance.
A distinctive feature of the curriculum is the Gross Anatomy course, which includes hands-on cadaver dissection. This provides a critical foundation for understanding human anatomy and accurately diagnosing sport-related injuries, a significant advantage over programmes using only digital models.
The university maintains partnerships with over 20 clinical sites in the region. These rotations allow students to work side-by-side with physicians and certified trainers, gaining diverse experience in various practice settings and with different patient populations.
