Overview
East Carolina University's Clinical Counseling, M.Sc. program's provides you the ability to help people who have mental health concerns such as mood disorders (depression, bipolar), thought disorders (schizophrenia) and situational life issues (family, relational, or vocational). As a clinical counselor, you would work toward increasing a person's coping skills, self-efficacy, and self-esteem. If you are interested in the fields of substance abuse and clinical counseling, you should explore these fields in greater depth prior to enrolling in any master's program.

- A bachelor's degree in communication or a related field from an accredited institution
- A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate coursework
- Three letters of recommendation
- A statement of purpose outlining the applicant's academic and professional goals, and how the MA program will help achieve those goals
- A writing sample, such as a research paper or essay, that demonstrates the applicant's writing skills and ability to conduct research
- A resume or CV detailing work experience, research experience, and other relevant activities
- A minimum score of 297 on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), with a score of at least 146 on the verbal section and 145 on the quantitative section
