Overview
The Social Work (MSW) Program from the Long Island University (LIU) Key Facts:
- Integral to competent practice is the ability to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration. Graduates of our MSW program are prepared to engage in practice that is informed by a diverse body of theories and knowledge, social work values, and professional social work skills.
- The Long Island University (LIU) MSW Program is accredited by the Council of Social Work Education (CSWE), signifying that it meets the highest standards of academic excellence. The Master of Social Work (MSW) Program at LIU Brooklyn is a collaboration with the LIU Post campus in Brookville, New York.
- Our Social Work program provides a step-wise progression to support student understanding of generalist and specialized social work practice. The generalist practice curriculum includes content in the foundation areas of social work: policy, practice, human behavior, research, diversity, professional values, and promotion of social justice, and applied through a field education experience.
- The advanced year curriculum deepens the student’s understanding and demonstrated mastery of psychosocial assessment, administrative theory and practice, and diversity sensitive practice. Students select a specific area of concentration for specialized education in a particular area of practice. Field experience in the second year provides an opportunity for the student to apply in practice specialized knowledge, values and skills gained through their selected concentration.
