Overview
Biochemistry is the branch of science concerned with the chemical and physiochemical processes that occur within living organisms. Molecular biology is the branch of biology that deals with the structure and function of macromolecules, like proteins and nucleic acid, that are essential to life. Entomology is the study of insects and the impact they have on the health and economic well-being of mankind. Plant pathology is the study of plant diseases, their causal agents and methods of control.
Mission
The mission of the Biochemistry program at Mississippi State University is to advance knowledge and understanding of concepts in these disciplines for the betterment of student and clientele educational pursuits, and to contribute to the improved well-being and prosperity of communities, local and global, through teaching, research and outreach efforts within this interdisciplinary department.Programme Structure

General requirements
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a physical or life science with a strong background in the program discipline of interest (biochemistry, molecular biology, entomology, or plant pathology).
- A minimum 2.75 overall GPA on a 4.00 scale.
- Scored results of the GRE general test recommended but not required.
- International students are required to have a TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of 500 PBT (61 iBT) or an IELTS (International English Language Testing Systems) score of 5.5 (non-English speaking international students)
