Program Details

Our research-oriented MA degree in Spanish from Auburn University requires at least 30 credit hours in Spanish at the 6000 and 7000 levels (including thesis credits) and a master's thesis. It’s intended for students with a bachelor's degree in Spanish who desire to pursue a traditional approach to the language and its literature.

Our MA degree also serves as excellent preparation for doctoral study at other institutions.

General requirements

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, with at least 38 semester hours of undergraduate Spanish above the freshman level (international students holding undergraduate degrees in an area other than language studies may submit their transcript for equivalency corroboration).
Satisfactory scores on the Graduate Record Examination are required for all domestic applicants. International students must have acceptable scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
At least 30 semester hours including 4 thesis credit hours
Successful completion of comprehensive examinations
A reading knowledge of one other foreign language (this knowledge may be demonstrated by examination or by completion of the first-year sequence (or the equivalent) of a foreign language with a grade of B or better)
