The Art Education at Eastern Illinois University is a 32-hour program blending online courses with intensive studio experiences designed to strengthen the development of certified art teachers and allow them to engage in professional development and graduate studies.

Overview

The program meets for one week during the summer at the EIU campus for the studio art components of the degree. This Art Education program at Eastern Illinois University is designed to allow the practicing art teacher to complete a degree in two years. The art education option does not lead to teacher licensure.

General requirements

  • Possess a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university.
  • Provide an official transcript verifying the degree, grade point average and date of degree completion.
  • Verify licensure in art education.
  • Meet all of the requirements for admission to the Graduate School.
  • Have a 2.75 grade point average on a 4.0 scale or have a 2.75 GPA for the last 60 hours of graded academic work. Course work taken as a post-baccalaureate student may be considered in the computation of the GPA.
  • Submit three letters of recommendation from principles, supervisors or others who can attest to the applicant’s academic and professional performance.
