Overview

Athletic Training from Brigham Young University is designed to provide an atmosphere where increased knowledge and practice prepare students to become leaders in the athletic training profession, and in their families, communities, and the world. Instruction for the MAT takes the form of lectures and laboratory courses, seminars, examinations, independent study, and clinical education assignments. In addition to working with athletic training faculty, MAT students will receive assignments to work with preceptors at a variety of clinical experiences, including an eight-week immersive internship.

Students at Athletic Training from Brigham Young University will:

demonstrate acquisition and application of athletic training knowledge, skills, and abilities at the master's degree level. The educational standards are listed as objectives and outcomes in required athletic training courses. The competencies and proficiencies are now curriculum standards: See 2020 Professional Standards for MAT (Appendix F).

be prepared for athletic training professional practice by demonstrating professional dispositions and clinical decision-making with patients in level-specific practice internships at affiliated clinical sites with the mentoring of qualified clinical preceptors (instructors) by establishing collaborative relationships. Students will also demonstrate leadership and management skills.

Minimum GPA of 3.2 for last 60 semester hours of upper level academic work

Applicants desiring the Master of Athletic Training (MAT) must submit supplementary application documents (Technical Standards, Physical Exam, Immunization/Background Check/Drug Screening) and must be ECC (CPR-AED) certified before first semester of MAT

Non-native English speakers who are not eligible for an exemption must obtain the minimum required score on any of the English proficiency exams accepted by BYU Graduate Studies.
