About the Program

The Psychology - Industrial and Organizational program of The University of North Carolina at Charlotte and its curriculum are built on five key foundational elements: Leadership, Organizational Change and Development, Talent, Culture/Climate, and Analytics. We strive to build the competencies set forth by our national professional organization, The Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology in their Guidelines for Education and Training in I-O psychology.

Our I/O Psychology master’s program is designed as an evening and weekend program to accommodate working professionals. For the convenience of our students, the classes are offered completely in uptown Charlotte rather than our main campus. As such, most of our students do not engage in traditional research while here. Rather, they tend to have an applied focus which is consistent with our goal of training I-O scientist-practitioners.

The I/O Psychology master’s program at UNC Charlotte is committed to social justice and inclusion, as is the department of Psychological Science to which we belong, and our University overall. Submit scores from the Graduate Record Exam (GRE), Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), or Miller Analogies Test (MAT)

Two letters of recommendation from working professionals who received a bachelor’s degree more than five years ago are suggested to seek out recommenders who can speak to their capabilities and potential as an I/O or HR professional

Statement of Purpose - Minimally, the statement should address: motivation for seeking a degree in I/O psychology, preparation for graduate studies in I/O Psychology, and expectation of how the degree will positively impact your career. Statements should be kept to approximately two pages

Applicants must also have a bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by an accepted accrediting body. While a degree in psychology or business is not required, applicants with backgrounds in these disciplines may be given preferential treatment.
