About this Degree

The Master of Sacred Music program at University of Notre Dame not only trains professional musicians for work in churches, but also provides students with the foundation to pursue doctoral studies and careers in performance.

The MSM degree is a two-year, 48-credit-hour degree, consisting of courses in applied music, sacred music history and analysis, and liturgical studies. Applicants for the MSM degree who do not hold a bachelor's degree in music must submit a transcript showing evidence of at least two years of music theory (4 courses) and music history (4 courses) at the music major level and have performed recitals on their major instrument (voice, piano, organ, etc.).
