Overview
The Art programme at the University of Oregon provides a rigorous environment for professional creative development and conceptual experimentation. Students engage in a three-year period of intensive studio practice designed to foster independent inquiry and a sophisticated understanding of contemporary historical contexts.
This curriculum encourages candidates to pursue an informed practice specific to their own sensibilities while acquiring the critical thinking skills necessary for a sustained career. The department supports a thorough engagement with fundamental principles alongside an awareness of issues within the global art community.
Why Art at the University of Oregon?
The institution offers a tight-knit community where approximately 20 graduate students collaborate with nationally and internationally recognised faculty. These educators are practicing professional artists frequently featured in major exhibitions and publications, providing diverse perspectives through critique colloquia and independent mentorship.
Facilities at the university are extensive, granting candidates access to specialised fabrication and technology resources across eight media areas. Resources include CNC milling machines, laser cutters, large-format inkjet printers, and 3D printers, ensuring students have the tools required for advanced technical experimentation.
Twice each academic year, the department hosts Grad Review and Open Studios, allowing candidates to present their work to faculty and invited guests. This process facilitates cross-disciplinary feedback from outside reviewers, gallery directors, and curators, helping students refine their terminal projects and professional networks.
