Overview

The Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering - Vancouver at Washington State University is a thesis program requiring a significant research project as well as coursework in the following general areas:

Solid mechanics

Micro/nano technology

The Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering is a thesis program and requires a minimum of 30 credit hours. This includes 21 hours of graded coursework beyond the bachelor’s plus a minimum of 4 thesis credits. The remaining five credits can be additional thesis credits or 500-level MECH classes.

Teaching and research assistantships are available for qualified students.

The WSU Vancouver MS in Mechanical Engineering is designed and administered separately from the MS program in Pullman. If you designate the WSU Pullman program as your main objective, you will not be automatically considered by the Vancouver program unless you submit the specific documentation requested on our “How to Apply” web page (http://encs.vancouver.wsu.edu/how-apply). Except in rare cases, only those who indicate WSU Vancouver as their main objective will be prompted to submit any missing documentation so our Selection Committee can review their completed applications.

General requirements

Prospective international students must have the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree from an approved institution. Usually this is a minimum of four years of study beyond grade 12.

A grade point average equivalent to a U.S. grade of “B” or better is required.
Prospective domestic students must have received a baccalaureate degree from a college or university, accredited by a recognized association, with a cumulative grade point average of 3.00.
