About Health Management and Policy at The University of Iowa
The Department of Health Management and Policy educates health care professionals for leadership roles in an increasingly complex and dynamic health care system. Graduates hold key executive, academic, research, government, and consulting positions in all areas of health management and policy, both in the United States and abroad.
The department offers the M.H.A. in a traditional program track and an executive track. It also collaborates with the Tippie College of Business and the College of Law to provide concurrent and combined M.H.A./graduate and professional degree programs. In addition, the M.S. in health policy, the policy subprogram for the Master of Public Health (M.P.H.), the Ph.D. in health services and policy, and the graduate Certificate in Healthcare Management are offered.

General requirements
- A U.S. bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university, or an equivalent degree from another country as determined by the Office of Admissions.
- A minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.00, or the foreign equivalent as determined by the Office of Admissions.
- English Proficiency Requirements
- In-person interview (zoom interview option is available for international applicants or those for whom travel would be prohibitively expensive). See list of interview dates below.
- Prior experience in healthcare is not required; however, the admissions committee considers health care or relevant professional work or volunteer experience.
- For international students: TOEFL minimum recommended score of paper 600, computer 250, and internet 100. TOEFL scores are required for international students.
