Overview
To prepare you to help people take on these challenges, we've developed a program designed to make you as well-rounded as possible in the field of social work. First, you have 61 credit hours of approved coursework you need to finish in order to graduate.
This will include research courses, practicums, and lectures on a wide range of subjects. We'll teach you all about important topics, such as social welfare policy, evidence-based interventions, implanting practices based on mental health diagnoses, and more. Best of all, we're going to give you real-world experience dealing with a diverse roster of clients, including families, individuals, and organizations. As part of this hands-on learning, you'll participate in clinical placements in agencies under the supervision of a master's-level social worker.
The Clinical - Medical Social Work MSW program from The University of Alabama at Birmingham prepares students for clinical practice, particulary in mental health and medical settings including specific focus on interventions demonstrated to be effective for specific populations. Combining extensive internships in behaviorial health settings with coordinated classroom learning, students are uniquely trained in clinical practice.
