Overview
The Teaching and Inquiry program at Northeastern Illinois University is open to K-8 teachers with a minimum of two years of teaching in their own classroom.
Key Features
Each term MSTI students take one required “core” course and one elective. Students choose their electives from dozens of course options.
With MSTI students choosing their five electives, the program allows each student to create the custom program that will most benefit their personal and professional goals. MSTI students can take one general education elective in a subject they teach.
MSTI students can also choose to focus their five electives in a specific area, such as in literacy, early childhood education, or earn an endorsement in Bilingual Education.
The M.S. in Teaching and Inquiry is designed to develop and expand teaching skills and knowledge through the focus of the five core courses in the program:
- inquiry-based teaching
- project-based teaching
- authentic and integrated curriculum development
- teaching 21st-century literacies
