Overview

Hispanic Literatures and Cultural Studies provides an overview of the literature, history, art and cultures of the Spanish-speaking world. Hispanic Linguistics provides training in Spanish phonetics; phonology; morphology; syntax; sociolinguistics; heritage language research and pedagogy; second-language acquisition; online teaching methods; pragmatics; and translation studies.

Both concentrations help you gain professional skills widely applicable for career opportunities outside the academy, while also preparing you to pursue work at the Ph.D. level in Spanish or in other disciplines.

The applicant must hold, or anticipate completing by the time of admission, a bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university or the equivalent degree from a university outside the U.S. and have a minimum grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4-point scale overall; and to have a minimum grade-point average of 3.4 on a 4-point scale in Spanish.
