The M. Ed. Program in Counselor Education is designed to attract individuals intending to serve as school counselors.

Overview

The primary purpose of this program is to produce individuals well qualified personally and professionally to perform effectively as counselors in elementary and/or secondary schools. The program is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).Program graduates are eligible to apply for initial South Carolina state certification as school counselors provided they meet specified State Department of Education requirements offered through the program.

GRE admission requirements GRE® The GRE® General Test is a widely administered admissions test that measures the skills needed in today's graduate and business school programs worldwide. It contains three sections - Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing. Three scores are reported: a Verbal Reasoning score on a 130 - 170 score scale in one-point increments, a Quantitative Reasoning score on a 130 - 170 score scale in one-point increments, and an Analytical Writing score on a 0 - 6 score scale in half-point increments.

General requirements

Applicants for the Master of Education degree in Counselor Education must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Applicants must present a complete Graduate School Admissions Portfolio composed of the items listed below in order to be eligible for the interview conducted by the Program’s Screening and Admissions Committee. The completed Portfolio must be presented prior to the specified deadline if the applicant is to be considered for admission the following academic term.
