About

Custom curriculum tracks combine hands-on clinical experience with courses in advanced evidence-based practice, health care management, and scientific research. Students have the option to work directly with faculty in their laboratories and perform research projects under their guidance.

Graduates of the master's program in Medical Laboratory Science at the University of Vermont are prepared to:

  • Promote positive patient outcomes through communication of laboratory-related information to health care professionals and patients and their families
  • Conduct evidence-based research to improve patient outcomes and advance the field
  • Apply advanced practice knowledge and technical skill to leadership roles in the medical laboratory science profession

Clinical and Research Opportunities

Students in Track One will complete a semester long clinical internship at one of the hospitals within the University of Vermont Health Network as part of the core NAACLS-accredited program.

All students will complete a three course series in research method and design that culminates with a capstone research project. Under the supervision of the program faculty in collaboration with clinical affiliate partners, students will conduct relevant evidence based research to advance the field of medical laboratory science.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 3.7

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3.7 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).
