The Computer Science and Applications program of Virginia Tech is currently ranked at #40 in the US News and World Report 2014 scores for graduate CS programs, additional accolades include being an NSF-identified top-30 program in the US (by number of Ph.D. degrees awarded) and as the #5 CS program in the country preferred by IT recruiters, according to a Wall Street Journal survey in 2010.

The Master of Science degree provides a solid foundation in computer science while still offering flexibility to meet the needs and interests of individual students.
The Master of Engineering (MEng) degree provides advanced training in Computer Science at the graduate level, with an emphasis on practical coursework that prepares students for a wide range of employment in the computing field. The MEng degree program is open to students with less formal Computer Science background, since it includes the coursework needed to prepare such students for more advanced Computer Science courses.

General requirements

Graduate School online application form, including the CS applicant information which is part of that form.

Non-refundable application fee.

Three letters of recommendation. These should be sent electronically using the on-line form to ensure that the letters are correctly matched to your application.

Official GRE scores from ETS for the general exam are required for students applying to the MS or PhD from a non-US institution, and preferred (but not required) for students applying from a US institution. GRE scores are not required for students applying for the MEng.

Official TOEFL scores from ETS for international students whose native language is not English and who have not earned a bachelor or master's degree from an anglophone univerisity.

Copy of transcripts of your undergraduate and graduate (if applicable) studies. If you are admitted to Virginia Tech, you must provide an official paper copy of your transcripts when you come to campus.
