The mission of the Master of Arts in Teaching program at Fairmont State University is to prepare teacher candidates with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to meet West Virginia teaching licensure requirements and obtain teacher certification in comprehensive and secondary content areas.

The Master of Arts in Teaching program at Fairmont State University will provide teacher candidates with an interdisciplinary curriculum and collaborative field experiences/clinical practice in order to assure a quality graduate for employability.

Fairmont State's online Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree is ideal for those who already have a bachelor's degree or higher in liberal arts (e.g., English, Social Studies, Spanish), fine arts (e.g., Art), scientific fields (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, General Science), or health fields (e.g., Exercise Science, Kinesiology) and are interested in becoming a licensed teacher.
