About

The master’s degree program in counseling is a CACREP-based model (Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs) designed to facilitate the development of professional competencies required for the delivery of counseling services within a school, community, or higher education setting. 

Overview

You may complete requirements for an endorsement at the same time you earn a master’s degree; endorsements are also available to students who have already earned master’s degrees.

The programme

Graduate students preparing for initial certification may select from either subject or field endorsements or a combination thereof, but must declare at least one endorsement. Special endorsements may be added to field or subject endorsements as appropriate.

  • professional responsibility and professional skills required for their position. 
  • Endorsement plans and requirements are processed through the department in which the work is being taken and with the Field Experience and Teacher Certification Office. Students are to meet as early in their programs as possible with the Field Experience and Teacher Certification Office, Brandenburg Education Building.

    General requirements

    • Submit the Application to the Graduate Program in Counseling (mail or online). 
    • Sign a notarized Student Affirmation stating that you have no felony convictions, nor misdemeanor convictions involving abuse, neglect, or injury to any person, nor any other convictions involving moral turpitude. 
    • Submit two reference forms from individuals who have observed your effectiveness in working with people.
    • Upon application to the program, candidates for the MSE are required to submit to the School of Education and Counseling a writing sample (an academic essay of five or more pages on a topic of their choice).
