The M.S. Ed. and Ed.S. programs actively engage students in courses that focus on the essential elements of leadership necessary for successfully guiding the effective and efficient operation of our schools.

About

The M.S.Ed. program is structured to prepare candidates to serve at the school building level as Teacher Leaders and to prepare candidates for admission to the Principal Endorsement Program. The Ed.S. program focuses on the preparation of candidates to serve as superintendents and other central office administration providing quality leadership at the school district level. The programs are actively reviewed and improved as the field of educational administration evolves. The commitment to continuous improvement is shown in the design and implementation of the new two tier principal endorsement program.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

  • This programme accepts GRE® scores. However, it does not provide a recommended score range.

    Schedule GRE®

    The GRE® General Test is a widely administered admissions test that measures the skills needed in today's graduate and business school programs worldwide. The GRE® General Test contains three sections - Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing. Three scores are reported: a Verbal Reasoning score on a 130 - 170 score scale in one-point increments, a Quantitative Reasoning score on a 130 - 170 score scale in one-point increments, and an Analytical Writing score on a 0 - 6 score scale in half-point increments.

General Requirements

  • Apply to The Graduate School by submitting an online application or by completing a paper application. Application requires a $30 non-refundable fee. 
  • Official transcripts should be mailed.
  • If you received your undergraduate degree from EIU, we will be able to request your transcript from the Records Office.
  • Some departments require a test score for admission. If the department requires a test score, have the score sent directly to The Graduate School (GMA, GRE).
  • All graduate programs require applicants to submit additional application materials through MyEIU. Additional materials may include a portfolio, letters of recommendation, writing samples, etc.
