Overview
Master of Science in Informatics (MSIN) provides students with skills in informatics, which encompasses Information Technology, Cyber Security, Information Sciences, Information Engineering, and related disciplines. Students may elect either the thesis option or the course work option. Students who elect the thesis option will pursue supervised research in a specific area.

- The Information Technology program at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley provides a broad foundation of study in information technology, as well as offering in-depth study in the areas of algorithms, databases, data mining and warehousing, information retrieval, networks, multimedia, interactive systems, and software engineering.
- A core of information technology courses is required, together with additional prescribed elective courses. Other electives and graduate courses in other departments may also be completed.

- Bachelor’s degree in Cyber Security or a bachelor’s degree in another field. Students admitted with a non-cyber security degree may be required to complete leveling coursework.
