Offered jointly with the University of South Dakota (USD), biomedical engineering is concerned with the application of engineering and science methodologies to the analysis of biological and physiological problems to the delivery of health care. 

Overview

The biomedical engineer serves as an interface between traditional engineering disciplines and living systems and may work in either direction, applying the patterns of living organism to engineering design or engineering new approaches to human health.Both the master of science and doctor of philosophy degrees are cross-disciplinary degrees. The objective of the MS program is to prepare a student for research and development careers in biomedical industry and further research at the doctoral level. The PhD program will prepare a student for a career as a researcher who advances the frontiers of biomedical science and engineering with attention to generating new ideas for commercialization.

GRE admission requirements GRE® The GRE® General Test is a widely administered admissions test that measures the skills needed in today's graduate and business school programs worldwide. It contains three sections - Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing. Three scores are reported: a Verbal Reasoning score on a 130 - 170 score scale in one-point increments, a Quantitative Reasoning score on a 130 - 170 score scale in one-point increments, and an Analytical Writing score on a 0 - 6 score scale in half-point increments.

GMAT contains 4 sections - Analytical Writing Assessment, Integrated Reasoning, Quantitative and Verbal. The score has a range from 200 - 800.

  • Completed application form.  Submit Online -- or paper applications are also accepted.  $35.00 application fee, payable online by credit card at the time of application or by check or money order via postal mail.
  • Official transcripts from all U.S. institutions attended, if applicable. Transcripts must be sent directly to SDSM&T by the issuing institution. Transcripts sent directly by the applicant are not accepted. Scanned copies are not accepted. A GPA of 3.0 or higher is typically required; students with exceptional ability may apply with less than 3.0 GPA.
