In response to the regional need for professionals prepared to educate students of limited English proficiency, State University of New York at New Paltz offers a Master of Science in Education in Second Language Education. This two-track, thirty-six credit program leads to initial and professional certification in English to Speakers of Other Languages.

Overview

The Department of Second Language Education (TESOL) program at State University of New York at New Paltz offers instruction leading to New York State initial and professional certification to teach the following subjects in grades 7-12: English, foreign languages (French and Spanish), mathematics, the sciences (biology, chemistry, earth science, and physics), teaching English as a second language (masters degree only) and social studies. 

Learning outcomes

Certificates for teaching in New York State are generally accepted for teaching in many other states.

The program includes core courses required of students in both tracks (twelve credits), specialized courses in each of the concentrations (fifteen credits), and additional courses in professional education (nine credits).
