The Biology program at Rhode Island College enables students to broaden and deepen their knowledge of biology and engage in independent research and data analysis. Students in this program will design and execute an original field-based or laboratory-based research project.

Graduate students in the MA in Biology program at Rhode Island College design and execute an original field or laboratory-based research project, conduct literature searches on timely biological topics, evaluate and synthesize primary source materials and develop the advanced scientific writing and oral communication skills necessary to interact effectively with fellow scientists in the professional arena.

A completed application form accompanied by a $50 nonrefundable application fee.

Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate records.

A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale in undergraduate course work.

A minimum of 24 credit hours of courses in biology, including those courses required of RIC undergraduate biology majors.

A minimum of 6 credit hours of courses in physics.

A minimum of 16 credit hours of courses in chemistry, including organic chemistry.

Three letters of recommendation.

A faculty research advisor must be identified.

A plan of study approved by the advisor and appropriate dean.

An interview. (This may be waived for RIC graduates in biology.)
