Overview
Key Features
Although there are challenges, it is an exciting time to be involved in the animal sciences! At no other time in history have so many people depended on so few for food production, and at no other time have animals contributed so meaningfully to enhancing human life by providing companionship, recreation and human well-being.
The future sustainability of this field depends on the recruitment and development of the brightest undergraduate and graduate students who will eventually become leaders in agriculture. The Animal Science program at the University of Arkansas provides enhanced educational programs and leadership opportunities for young people interested in the animal sciences.
The Department of Animal Science also aims to foster the discovery, sharing and application of scientific knowledge concerning the responsible use of animals to enhance human life and well-being, while including a diverse community of professionals who focus on the scientific issues of all animals used to benefit humans. Our department has played a critical role in the successes of animal agriculture as well as the development of countless professional careers.
