The program, jointly offered with Millersville University, is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. What Will I Learn?
You will learn how to become an advanced generalist social work practitioner to work in the areas of :
- Aging
- Child welfare
- Criminal justice/corrections
- Drug and alcohol/addictive behaviors
- Education/school social work
- Family services
- Health care/public health
- Homelessness
- Disabilities
Core classes, electives and internships will provide you with the necessary values, knowledge, affective and cognitive processes and competencies to practice social work with all client systems in a variety of settings and various roles. You will be able to facilitate change within the boundaries of social justice and human rights.
NEW! Students with an undergraduate degree in social work who qualify for advanced standing may advance their education with Ship's online MSW. Classes are taught by the same faculty who teach in the face-to-face program and are designed for working professionals with workplace internship options. Classes may meet asynchronously or synchronously one evening per week.

- Regular standing admission is for students who completed a baccalaureate degree with a major other than social work as well as students who graduated from a CSWE-accredited social work program within the past eight years but did not meet the QPA requirements for advanced standing.
Students must demonstrate they have successfully completed coursework in each of the following areas: Human Biology, Economics, Government/Political Science, Psychology, Sociology/Anthropology, and Statistics. Applicants can be admitted with course deficiencies on the condition that these course deficiencies are completed before students start the fall semester of the specialization year. The program provides information about options for completion of these prerequisites upon admission to the program.
