Overview
The Environmental Science program at Tarleton State University provides students with the opportunity to focus on the the ecological, socioeconomic, and policy factors critical to environmental assessment, management, and program implementation. Students may also explore interdisciplinary interactions among these components of environmental science.
Through rigorous and varied coursework, along with access to researches associated with Tarleton State University, Texas A&M AgriLife Research, and the Texas Institute for Applied Environmental Research (TIAER) students can develop an environmental science program that fits their own career interests.
Designed With You in Mind
Environmental science is a rapidly growing field. Environmental specialists may:
- Assess impacts of development on ecological processes
- Investigate the impact of human decision making on natural resource use, or
- Help determine the influence of public policies on environmental sustainability.
Environmental scientists may work in the field analyzing environmental impacts on soil, water, or air. They may also become laboratory-based researchers, educators, program managers, or policy makers.
Program Objectives
- Provide students with a solid background in environmental science that they can use to integrate their knowledge across many different areas.
- Provide students with technical skills such as the ability to observe, record, and interpret data.
- Students will gain the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Students will learn how to work in a group setting and develop project management capabilities necessary for a career in Environmental Science.
- Provide students with the scientific knowledge and training to better understand and resolve environmental problems.

Our program faculty are members of various state and national environmental organizations that build collaborative research programs. Students in our program can become active in organizations such as:

- National Association of Environmental Professionals (NAEP)
- National Water Research Institute (NWRI)
- Soil and Water Conservation Society (SWCS)
- Water Environment Federation (WEF)

General requirements
- Obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Geology, Chemistry, Hydrology or any other areas related to Environmental Science
- Submit online graduate admissions application
- Pay a $50 non-refundable processing fee
- Submit a statement of purpose of 600 words or less
- A transcript evaluation must be completed by an approved agency which includes all previous academic course work, as well as a complete description of courses and overall GPA (course-by-course evaluation)
- International applicants are required to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores as a part of the application process
- Required of students studying on-campus, in the U.S. only: To obtain a Form I-20 for your studies at Tarleton, you must demonstrate that you have sufficient funding
