Designed With You in Mind

The Thesis Track of the English program at Tarleton State University is designed primarily for students planning to pursue a career in collegiate teaching and prepares them to continue their studies with a doctoral degree. The Non-Thesis Track is designed primarily for students who desire to pursue secondary-level teaching careers. Choosing between these two tracks enables students to meet their academic needs and career goals.

Program Objectives

Provide students with the skills that are necessary for teaching dual-credit courses, as well as for the responsibility that comes with being an adjunct faculty member or professor at the collegiate level.

Offer coursework in professional writing that will prepare graduates to enter the growing and lucrative technical writing/editing field, as well as careers in journalism, educational administration, and many areas of business.

Equip our graduates with the necessary training they will need in order to be successful in the field.

Provide students with personal program advising from start to finish and flexible course delivery options (including full summer listings) in order to accommodate busy schedules.

Provide an exciting, interactive, and demanding course of study.

GPA of 3.0 or higher on last 60 hours

Writing sample

Submit online graduate admissions application

Pay a $50 non-refundable processing fee

Submit a statement of purpose of 600 words or less

A transcript evaluation must be completed by an approved agency which includes all previous academic course work, as well as a complete description of courses and overall GPA (course-by-course evaluation)

International applicants are required to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores as a part of the application process

Required of students studying on-campus, in the U.S. only: To obtain a Form I-20 for your studies at Tarleton, you must demonstrate that you have sufficient funding
