The Valdosta State Difference
The Criminal Justice program of Valdosta State University is also offered entirely online. Completion of 36 credits is required, six of which include a thesis. The degree can be completed in two years.
A central focus of the program is to demonstrate that the problems and issues our society faces with regard to crime and our reaction to crime must be situated within a larger cultural and structural context. Upon graduation students will be: conversant with the theoretical and legal principles in criminal justice; knowledgeable of the essential research contributions in the discipline; capable of quantitative and qualitative research and data analysis in criminal justice; and competent to assume leadership, policymaking, research, and instructional responsibilities in criminal justice.
What you'll learn
The Master’s Degree is focused on integrating criminal justice theory with criminal justice practice. Course work in the MS program includes: administration and management; ethics and civil liability; scientific criminal justice research methods; statistical analysis; advanced criminological theories; criminal law and procedure; criminal justice planning and policy evaluation; advance crime prevention; comparative criminal justice; seminar in law enforcement; forensic investigation; criminal behavior and personality; juvenile justice; seminar in criminal victimization; and directed study, to mention a few. Graduates with the degree are prepared to advance their professional careers and/or to pursue a doctoral degree.

- Online Graduate Application.
- Must hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally- accredited institution.
- Minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale calculated on all attempted coursework.
- GRE scores.
- An essay detailing the applicant’s interest in enrolling in the program, goals for advancing his/her intellectual abilities in the program, and how study in the program will advance his/her professional skills.
- Two Recommendations.
- Students enrolling exclusively in online classes are not required to submit immunization records.
- Applicants for the online track should complete the Student Information Sectionand the Distance Learning Exemption only.
- Prospective students whose first language is not English or those who completed coursework or degrees outside the U.S., please provide language proficiency test scores.
