The comprehensive curriculum of the Music Education program at Arkansas State University is designed for both public school educators as well as for those who plan to continue study at the doctoral level. The Department of Music entrance examinations in music history and music theory assist in planning each student’s exact course of study.

General requirements
- Applicants must have completed a four-year teacher education program
- Applicants who do not meet the requirements of completing a four-year teacher education program may be required to complete the undergraduate courses leading to licensure
- Applicants must also take the A-State Department of Music entrance examinations in music history, written music theory, and aural music theory
- Official transcripts for coursework and degree completion verification in music education or an approved equivalent
- A Letter of Interest (minimum of 500 words, maximum of 750) stating current professional status/goals after obtaining the MME degree and a brief overview of your philosophy of music education
- Resume or CV
- Three professional letters of recommendation
- An example of your teaching (must be an audio-visual recording of an ensemble or group music lesson; minimum of 5 minutes, maximum of 10 minutes)
- GPA of 3.00 (or 3.25 on the last 60 hours)
