If you are a practicing engineer, the Master of Engineering in Chemical Engineering is designed to suit your needs with a non-thesis, 30-hour program. The Master of Engineering Science in Chemical Engineering at Lamar University is a thesis-option program that prepares you to develop independent solutions in your discipline. You'll select a thesis committee and a director to guide you as you prepare to defend and present your research.

Career Paths

Some chemical engineers, known as process engineers, specialize in a particular process, such as oxidation or polymerization. Others specialize in a particular field, such as nanomaterials or biological engineering. Still others specialize in developing specific products. In addition, chemical engineers work in the production of fuel, chemicals, energy, semiconductor, food, clothing and paper. They must understand how the manufacturing process affects the environment and the safety of workers and consumers. Chemical engineers also conduct research in the life sciences, biotechnology and business services.
