Overview
Since its inception in 1989, the MM program has offered excellent training in performance/composition supported by high-level coursework in theory, history, and literature. With a proud history at Towson, the program is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.
Enjoy interacting with students from a variety of backgrounds and nationalities. In recent years, we have had students from Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, Indonesia, Korea, the Philippines, Poland, and Russia as well as from across the U.S. Students graduating from the MM program have pursued a variety of careers in performance, teaching, and work in the music industry. Others have been admitted to doctoral programs at prestigious universities.

General requirements
- A Bachelor of Music degree with a major in the area of concentration from a regionally accredited college or university**.
- A minimum GPA of 3.00 for full admission or 2.75 for conditional admission. All GPA calculations for admission are based upon the last 60 units of undergraduate and post-baccalaureate study.
- Students completing the University of Maryland Baltimore County’s Certificate in Contemporary American Music program may apply under a collaborative agreement.
