USF’s Master of Science in Chemistry is designed for graduate students seeking a research-based degree with personalized direction from research advisers and training from experienced full-time faculty.

About

The program is intended for students with an undergraduate degree in chemistry or biochemistry. If a student is lacking a proper foundation for graduate work in chemistry, then some advanced undergraduate coursework will be required.

Students are required to complete 24 units of academic credit, including a substantial thesis based on original research work completed under the direction of one of our professors. The typical length of the program is two and a half years. Any courses taken must be graduate or upper-division undergraduate courses. Students typically complete six units each semester, which may be comprised entirely of research-based units.

    PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic) is a language test that enables students to demonstrate their writing, listening, speaking, and reading skills when applying to study in English. Delivered and marked by computer, it reports on a scale between 10 and 90.

Academic Requirements

Required score: 2.7

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2.7 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).
