Teachers seeking to take their skills and knowledge to the next level to develop innovative lessons and enhance their classroom learning environments can do so through Lehigh University’s Master’s degree in Teaching and Learning.

Key features

The program is geared primarily toward practicing teachers and, in recognition of that, offers flexible options for completing the course work. Candidates earn a Master of Education in Teaching and Learning and the degrees require the completion of 10 courses (30 credits) offered in person, online and in hybrid options, including summer institutes that are intensive eight-day courses.

Lehigh’s experienced faculty work with master’s candidates to expand their understanding of how children learn and how to design materials and environments that will best serve all students.

Typically, it takes one to three years to complete the program depending on whether students are full-time or part-time. A normal course load for working teachers would be one or two courses in the fall, one or two in the spring and two in the summer.

For the Master of Education, students take core courses but also choose between two tracks:

Technology in School Settings shows teachers how to effectively and imaginatively incorporate technology in educational settings.
English as a Second Language will advance educators’ knowledge and use of evidence-based instructional practices to support the learning and second language development of English learners (ELs) in PK-12 settings.
Teaching Field Content is for educators looking to advance their knowledge and skills in their chosen teaching field, including science, history, English and mathematics.
