Some students structure their Physics program at Lehigh University with a specialized focus so that they are prepared for employment when they complete the program, but others treat it as a part of the core program for the Ph.D. track. Students in the Physics program at Lehigh University must complete either a research project or a Master's thesis to earn the degree.

Students entering with graduate level work at other institutions may include relevant courses taken at the other institutions in their proposal for candidacy, which includes all their course preparation as well as the research proposal for the dissertation.

General requirements

An application form must be submitted (see below).

Official transcripts must be submitted from each university attended, listing the type of degree and the date it was awarded. Foreign transcripts must include notarized English translations and conversion of grades to the American 4.0 grading scale.

Two letters of recommendation are required.

The General GRE Test is required for all applicants. The Physics GRE Subject Test is not required for admission, but applicants are encouraged to take it. The TOEFL score is required for international applicants. [All exam scores must be less than 5 years old.]

A $75 non-refundable application fee should accompany the formal application.
