You must have a bachelor's degree or higher from an institution recognized by a regional accrediting association.

Three letters of recommendation

Statement of purpose

Provide a written statement of 750-1000 words detailing your academic and intellectual biography and your purpose in seeking a graduate degree at Ball State University.

Writing sample

Provide an 8-15 page, double-spaced writing sample that meets the following:

Preferably, provide a paper written for a class. The writing sample should exemplify your best work.

If you do not have a sample of academic work, write a new paper on a subject related to the previous or proposed field of study.

Applicants interested in pursuing the Creative Writing concentration should submit a creative writing sample in either fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, or some combination of genres (poetry can be single-spaced).
