Key facts:

The M.E. in Middle Childhood Education (MCE) at Ohio University can be completed in one year (3-4 academic terms). Teacher candidates are expected to begin their program of study during the Summer term and to follow the prescribed sequence of courses. Teacher candidates who enter the program during the Fall or Spring term or who must meet additional content knowledge requirements will require more than 4 academic terms to successfully complete the program.

All teacher candidates must complete a yearlong internship in a classroom which includes a Fall seminar and Spring seminar. In the Fall term candidates observe and teach in a classroom for a minimum of 2 full days per week and participate in the Rural Urban Collaborative, a non-consecutive four day placement in an urban school setting. During the Spring term candidates observe and teach in a classroom full-time and complete the edTPA assessment

- Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent: Admission requires an earned bachelor's degree from a U.S. college or university accredited by a regional accrediting association, or an international degree that is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree from a college or university recognized and approved by the Ministry of Education or Commission responsible for higher education in the country where the degree is earned.
- Official transcripts: Applicants are required to submit one official transcript from each post-secondary institution attended, regardless of whether or not a degree was earned or the credits are reflected on a separate transcript as transfer credit.
- Letters of recommendation. Applicants must submit three letters of recommendation.
- Statement of Purpose: Applicants must submit a two-page statement of purpose.
- Resume or Curriculum Vita: This should also be treated as one of the most important items in your application package.
