Overview
This English program from University of New Hampshire is based on the belief that pedagogy emerges out of first hand experience in the processes of reading and writing. This program is designed for practicing elementary, middle and high school teachers and is not appropriate for individuals seeking state certification.

Our English department offers special summer programs, which can be taken to fulfill some or all of the course requirements for the M.S.T. degree. The New Hampshire Literacy Institutes is a summer program that focuses on the teaching of writing and reading in grades K-12.
Summer institutes emphasize writing workshops in fiction, nonfiction and poetry, and may include courses in literature and composition theory and research. No foreign language is required for this graduate-level program, nor is the GRE is required in the application.

Programme Structure
Program requirements:
- The M.S.T program requires the completion of 32 credit hours at the 800 or 900 level. At least 24 of these credits must be in the Department of English. Courses taken outside the department must be approved by the student's adviser. Students must complete a capstone experience (creative writing option, teacher inquiry option, or curricular option).

- Applicants are to submit at least two different pieces of writing--one to demonstrate competence in analytical writing, i.e. a research paper, a literary analysis paper, an extended book review; the other piece should demonstrate creative writing ability, i.e. a chapter in a novel, a short story, or a personal essay (recounting or reflecting on a personal experience). A paper previously submitted for a class is acceptable. The samples could total between fifteen and thirty pages.
