Faculty and students of the Department of Musicology (MCY) in the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami advance the interdisciplinary study of music by examining how, when, where, and why people create, experience, and understand music.

Overview

Students seeking the M.M. in Musicology at the University of Miami enjoy a balanced curriculum of study in music literature and analysis, critical theory, and research methods, along with opportunities to develop skills in music performance, composition, and pedagogy.

GRE admission requirements GRE® The GRE® General Test is a widely administered admissions test that measures the skills needed in today's graduate and business school programs worldwide. It contains three sections - Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing. Three scores are reported: a Verbal Reasoning score on a 130 - 170 score scale in one-point increments, a Quantitative Reasoning score on a 130 - 170 score scale in one-point increments, and an Analytical Writing score on a 0 - 6 score scale in half-point increments.

TOEFL admission requirements TOEFL® IBT The TOEFL iBT® is given online through the internet at designated testing site. The test measures your English-language abilities in an academic setting.   • Transcripts – an official transcript from ALL post-secondary schools attended, regardless of if a degree was granted or not, must be sent directly to the Frost School of Music from the issuing institution in order to be considered official
  • Three letters of recommendation - sent through CollegeNet as part of application submission. These do not need to be sent separately
  • Resume - attached to the application at the time of submission. This does not need to be sent separately
