Overview
About the program
In addition to traditional ceramic studio activities, the program is combined with students and faculty in the graduate sculpture area. Ceramics and sculpture share common critiques, faculty and facilities.
The professional experience of each M.F.A. student at University of Notre Dame is supplemented by interaction with M.F.A. candidates in Design, Painting, Printmaking and Photography through group critiques, visiting artist seminars, contemporary history & criticism classes, exhibitions, and social interactions.
Many past M.F.A. Ceramics graduates have been placed in university teaching positions around the country, and most have remained active as professional ceramic artists.
Facilities
Each Ceramics M.F.A. student is provided with a large spacious individual studio in the ceramic area studio complex. Equipment includes traditional ceramic wheels, mixers, pug mills, kilns, etc. to include: two large gas kilns, a gas fired salt kiln, and four electric kilns. A wood fired anagama kiln is located off campus at Bill Kremer’s home studio.
The Ceramics program is integrated with the sculpture program allowing for shared use of the sculpture wood shop, welding, foundry, and plaster working facilities and equipment.
