Program Description
The Communication program at North Dakota State University prepares students for academic and management positions, as well as advancement within current career fields.
Students considering Ph.D.-level study should choose the thesis option. In this path, students are required to demonstrate mastery of the research process, including writing a research proposal, collecting and analyzing data, and interpreting the results. Students desiring a terminal Master's should take the Master's exam option. In this option, students prepare and complete an eight-hour examination at the conclusion of their studies.
Students may take graduate course work in other disciplines to enhance their program of study. Interdisciplinary approaches to research are encouraged.

- Students should have adequate study in communication, journalism or a related area; and provide a score for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
- You are required to submit your online application and nonrefundable $35 application fee
- A statement of purpose is required for admission consideration and must be uploaded to your online application

- Submitting your transcripts (statement of marks)
- All graduate applicants, regardless of citizenship or residency, must demonstrate proficiency with the English language before they will be considered for admission to a graduate program
