Overview

Master of Mass Communication offered by Louisiana State University students can choose between two tracks – scholarly and professional – and can pursue the study of:

journalism

strategic communication (public relations & advertising)

and political communication

The program offers a core set of courses to all students, then allows each student to design a course plan within a flexible framework to meet either their professional or scholarly needs.

This is a two-year degree and we offer about 40% of our full-time students graduate assistantships that pay $11,500 stipend per year for up to two years. This comes with a tuition exemption (although you still must pay some mandatory student fees).

General requirements

A conferred baccalaureate (or equivalent) from a regionally accredited college or university by the expected date of entry into the graduate program. The School requires a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 GPA scale in the previous undergraduate degree and if applicable, a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 GPA scale in any previous graduate coursework.
Transcripts are required for each college or university attended. This includes dual enrollment credits, post-secondary colleges, and schools where a degree was not earned.
In addition to transcripts, international applicants are required to submit degree certificates/diplomas. Documents written in a language other than English must be accompanied by a certified translation.
