The Counseling Psychology program curriculum at University of Kansas provides a broad and general introduction to counseling psychology theory, research and clinical practice.

General requirements

  • Minimum Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 and, if applicable, minimum Graduate GPA of 3.5.
  • Official GRE general test scores, taken within the last five years and scores should be at the 50th percentile or higher. 
  • Completed bachelor's or master’s degree in counseling, psychology, or a related area. Applicants who do not have an undergraduate degree in education or psychology should have a minimum of 15 undergraduate credit hours in the behavioral sciences, such as Psychology, Human Development, Sociology, Education, etc. 
  • Criminal background check. To matriculate and enroll as a student in good standing in the KU School of Education’s Counseling Psychology programs and to be placed in clinical practice sites (e.g., practicum, internship, field experience), students in the program must complete and satisfactorily clear a criminal background check with Validity Screening Solutions.
