Programme Structure

  • All M.M. students majoring in History/Musicology, Theory or Music Education/Research are required to write a thesis. In lieu of the thesis, Collaborative Piano majors must accompany four recitals, Composition and Jazz Composition/Arranging majors must submit an original composition in large form, and Performance and Music Education/Applied Music majors must perform a full recital. 
  • Music Education/Conducting majors must conduct a full public program or portion of a public program, or complete another capstone project approved by the conducting faculty. Music Education/Pedagogy majors must complete a capstone project approved by the music education faculty.
  • Vocal Performance, Music History/Musicology, and Collaborative Piano majors have a foreign language proficiency requirement.

GMAT admission requirements GMAT The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a test intended to assess certain analytical, writing, quantitative, verbal, and reading skills in written English for use in admission to a graduate management program, such as an MBA. GMAT contains 4 sections - Analytical Writing Assessment, Integrated Reasoning, Quantitative and Verbal. The score has a range from 200 - 800.

English requirements

IELTS admission requirements IELTS The International English Language Test System (IELTS) tests your English-language proficiency on a scale of 1 – 9. The score refers to the combined average score of 4 subjects (writing, listening, speaking, and reading).
TOEFL admission requirements TOEFL® IBT The TOEFL iBT® is given online through the internet at desiganated testing site. The test measures your English-language abilities in an academic setting. The score refers to the total score of 4 subjects (writing, listening, speaking, and reading), each subject has a range of 0 - 30.

PTE Academic admission requirements PTE Academic PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic) is a language test that enables students to demonstrate their writing, listening, speaking, and reading skills when applying to study in English. The score refers to a total score which ranges between 10 and 90.

General requirements

The Graduate School requires applicants to submit an official copy of all undergraduate and graduate transcripts, a personal statement, and two letters of recommendation. Some graduate programs require additional support materials as part of the application process. 

To be considered for admission, international applicants whose native language is not English must submit verification of a TOEFL score at or above 550 (written) or 213 (computerized version) or 80 (IBT). These materials must be sent by the agency administering the TOEFL directly to the address below
