Welcome to UGA Romance Language's program in French and Francophone Studies. In addition to French language courses, we offer a wide variety of classes that address global Francophonie, or French-speaking regions around the world. 

Overview

With excellent language skills and training in literature, media, culture, history, and politics, our French and French Studies majors graduate well-equipped to enter a variety of professional schools and careers. This master degree in French is offered at the University of Georgia.

Our graduate programs in literature favor a contextualized and integrated approach to the research of language and cultural production. Texts are studied as components in a broad network of interrelated artistic, political, and economic practices and institutions.

  • Statement of purpose. Your 1-2 page statement should include a description of any personal, professional, or educational experiences that have prepared you or contributed to your desire to pursue advanced study in Romance Languages, as well as a description of your tentative study interests and your career goals.   • Curriculum vitae. Your CV should include any honors, awards, teaching or research experience.
  • Three recommendations. 
  • A writing sample, such as a research paper, in the language of study (7-10 pages for M.A. applicants, 10-20 pages for Ph.D. applicants).
  • Application for teaching assistantship
