In addition to coursework in literary studies, students have the opportunity to participate in creative writing and/or literary translation workshops as well as seminars in other disciplines, such as film studies, the history of ideas, philosophy and the visual and performing arts.

Students pursuing the MA in Literature from University of Texas at Dallas will choose between the professional option (coursework only) and the research option (coursework plus a portfolio). Students who choose the research option may, If their coursework supports it, submit a translation or creative writing project as part of their portfolio.
